An urgent appeal to the international institutions asking them to prevent the deportation and stop the persecution of the Eritrean refugees in Libya.
Eritreans refugees in Libya, who were originally “pushed back” by Italy and Malta, are being still subjected to the risk of imminent deportation from Libya. We are launching an urgent appeal to the United Nations and the European Union.
After learning through the websites of EveryOne Group, Agenzia Habeshia, the Italian Radical Party and NoirPink of the situation of neglect the over 200 Eritreans in Libya now find themselves in,
I, [NAME AND SURNAME / NOME E COGNOME], [DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH / DATA E LUOGO DI NASCITA], living in [COUNTRY / STATO], [ADDRESS / INDIRIZZO], e-mail [E-MAIL], Tel. No. [TELEPHONE NUMBER / NUMERO TELEFONICO],
wish to join the appeal for urgent intervention from the EU and UN institutions and authorities to prevent the imminent deportation from Libya of the Eritrean refugees, most of whom were originally pushed back from Italy and Malta towards the end of July 2010.
In spite of the promises made, the Italian Government is doing nothing to ensure the Eritreans are not sent back to Eritrea, where they would face certain persecution. So today we are forced to issue yet another urgent appeal. Time is running out, we have to take action as soon as possible if we are to save these people.
We are asking you to take urgent action to prevent this humanitarian tragedy deteriorating over the next few hours and to stop, once and for all, with urgent measures, the imminent deportation of these people back to Eritrea. As well as the 200 refugees awaiting deportation, there are many others in the Kuifia detention centre in Libya who may well be entitled to apply for asylum in the European Union.
Together with EveryOne Group, Agenzia Habeshia and the association NoirPink, we are renewing our appeal for the asylum seekers blocked in Libya. We are asking that a proper and lasting solution be found to this problem, with a project of resettlement in Europe for refugees in need of international protection.
